Who is man enough for an impossible food-wine pairing? Well, for those with a set of steel, head on over to the seventh (!) annual World Testicle Cooking Championship in Serbia. There, the AP reports that chefs prepare bull, boar, camel, ostrich and kangaroo testicles in such dishes as testicle pizza and testicles in bechamel sauce. Outback oysters! Needless to say, the AP ensures us that “visitors eat the dishes with plenty of wine or...

Everyone loves pizza. It’s the #1 looked up entry in yellow pages and very popular in google searches as well. While dining at a pizzeria or getting delivered to your home are the most popular consumption modes, people are going to want this goodness on call in their freezer as well. There’s an entire section of a supermarket aisle to support this claim. While…  Read More →

At the moment, this is my current favorite omelet. Maybe it’s because tomatoes have been tasting so good lately, or maybe it’s because the basil I used was freshly picked from my garden, or is it because it just screams summer ! Perfect for the weekend when everything slows down a bit and you get to linger over your second or third cup of coffee. Be sure to pop some crusty Italian bread in your toaster. Have I told you I love the...

“Eat your veggies” is a mantra generations of mothers have passed on to their progeny. We all acknowledge the importance of vegetables and fruits to our health – fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, etc. – yet most children and parents do very poorly in meeting their daily consumption requirements. One in 4 “vegetables” consumed in the US today is French fries, and while potatoes in and of themselves are...

This is a guest post by Lisa Cain, PhD, a.k.a Snack-Girl Do you have a food fight with your child after school? Is he starving because he tossed out his uneaten lunch? Was he  having too much fun in the school cafeteria and simply forgot to eat? You’re not the only family where this happens. That’s why the after school snacks are tricky – kids are uptight, you haven’t prepared anything special, and the temptation to...

Inadequate Public Funding and the Sale of Competitive Foods as a Revenue Source This is a guest blog-post by Professor Timothy D. Lytton First Lady Michelle Obama’s recently launched Let’s Move campaign to reduce childhood obesity has put a spotlight on reforming school food. The primary reason for the abundance of unhealthy foods in schools is inadequate public funding of school meals and schools in general. Unfortunately, the sale of unhealthy...

You know the old saying, ” Don’t knock it until you try it”, well all I can say is this, if you haven’t eaten a pizza with a cooked egg on top, you’re missing out! I know it may sound a little weird, but believe me it’s amazing! Crunchy dough and savory tomatoes anchor one perfectly cracked organic egg along with toppings of smoked ham, fresh spinach, green onions and mozzarella …  Read More →

When I ask my father what vegetables he wants with dinner, his response is often “potatoes” to which I reply “Dad! We already have a starch. What vegetable would you like?” He then looks me with an obvious smirk and repeats “potatoes”. I am very much my father’s daughter in that regard. Love them. And noodles. I hope I never have to chose between the two. As much as I am a potato gal, I never thought...
