Here’s yet another potential diet. Drink 2 glasses of water before every meal, and you’ll lose weight. That’s what a 12 week study has shown in middle aged people. They lost more weight than a control group that did not drink water. Both groups lost weight as they were instructed to follow a low fat, low calorie diet. Last week NPR held an interesting debate about the taxing of sugary soft drinks. Representing the Cokes and Pepsis of the world was Maureen Storey of the American Beverage Association . In her words: Soda is comprised mostly of water. A full-calorie soft drink has 90 percent water, and a diet soft drink is 99 percent water. Indra Nooyi, the vegetarian CEO of PepsiCo (PEP), tells Fortune magazine that, though her company is trying its best to transform its portfolio of sugar- and salt-laden products to be more healthful, it would be better for public health if “all consumers exercised.” That’s true. But she added that if they did so, “the problem of obesity wouldn’t exist.” Well, of course it would. Exercise is necessary, but...

Vegetables are very versatile, and can be prepared in endless ways.  Here are some interesting findings on consumer preferences, from a recent poll by  SupermarketGuru.com : 86% of consumers indicated that they are attempting to add more veggies to their diet. 64% prefer the produce section, 32% the frozen foods section, and a smaller number prefer canned. Time permitting, 33% prefer to steam their veggies, 22% bake and roast, 16% microwave....
