Crunchy cool slaw with a light peanut dressing. It’s almost the end of July. How has your summer been? Moonlit and sultry? All Popsicles and kiddie pool? Or just plain flat out busy as a bee? If it’s been busy, Sugar, I can relate. Here in our tiny corner of the world we’ve been too crazy to cook much. We’ve been living on…  Read More →

Cashew cream makes a divine dairy-free ranch dressing. I’ve been reading on Twitter it’s too hot to cook. So why not go raw? Numero uno, it’s easy. Numero dos, it’s tasty. And as an added bonus (if you need another nudge) cooking raw keeps the kitchen cool as a cucumber- which, by all accounts, is chilly by default and well. Raw. I’ve been flirting with raw cuisine lately to heal inflammation and tame my monkey gut....

Blueberry crumb cake- gluten-free summer goodness. Blueberries are in season so I thought I’d reprise a favorite recipe of mine. A tender blueberry crumb cake. Perfect for sharing with a friend. And a glimpse back. Blogging is like a time machine. You get to thumb through not only recipes but bits of life and places you no longer inhabit. A year ago we were stuck in New Mexico, chained to Ojo Caliente by the unraveling real estate market,...

Frosty banana pops- a dairy-free and vegan summer treat. Summer is here. Daylight stretches pink into the evening, warm and luxurious. Santa Monica is thick with tourists. Students heft surfboards and beach towels instead of backpacks. The Farmer’s Markets are drop dead gorgeous (sneak a peek at our LA markets from Sarah here at The Delicious Life- who’s been considerably more mobile than moi lately…  Read More →

Yummy dairy-free banana smoothie with hemp milk. It’s been a week of bland soft foods. I’ve dubbed this week the No Pointy Foods Diet. Mashed potatoes. Creamy rice. Squash puree. No nuts, seeds, or chips. No crunch. No snap. No spices. Talk about not sexy. Suddenly, I’m the Goddess of Bland. Slurping tiny bites of baby food. Lucky for me, bananas are doable. Especially if they’re frozen…  Read More →

Rich, intense chocolate sorbet- dairy-free and vegan. Two trends are sneaking in to recipe searches this week. The first? Super bowl recipes. You know, guy-style chicken chili and Crock-Pot crowd pleasers. Party food for the Big Game. Guacamole and hummus. Nachos. The second trend is a search closer to my own heart and its tender sensibilities.  You may have already guessed it. Because you, Hi there! This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free...

Warm up with a bowl of this mulligatawny soup. Soup weather has arrived in Southern California. The sky is flannel gray and thick with rain. The streets below are slick and shiny wet. Monday morning traffic sounds are hushed and distant. It is even a bit chilly- for L.A. standards. I am wrapped in a sweater. And I am craving mulligatawny- one of my favorite spicy soups. As luck or fate or Plan Hi there! This is a  Read More →

A delicious acorn squash risotto that is vegan and gluten-free. Looking for a perfect Thanksgiving side dish? Or a vegetarian knock-your-socks-off bowl of creamy goodness? Risotto might fit the bill. This is one of my all-time recipe favorites. In fact, it was the first dish I turned to eight years ago when I discovered I had to live gluten-free. Way back then (insert hazy slow-mo flashback) I [This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free Goddess...

A crustless, creamy sweet potato pie vegan and gluten-free guests will devour. Promise. The afternoon sun is spinning the seaside air that particular autumn gold, burnished and warm and chilly all at once. Delicious. And gone too soon. The sun will officially set tonight at 4:50. I feel as if I am running out of time. There is so much I want to do- and never get done. I surrender my [This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free Goddess at glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com...

Need a gluten-free and dairy-free pumpkin pie? No problem. The Big T. Thanksgiving. Nothing sends shivers of trepidation up a gluten-free or dairy-free girl’s spine like the mental image of Grandma’s sage pungent white bread dressing or shimmying slabs of Aunt Ida’s pumpkin pie. It’s a butter and wheat flour gorge fest with danger at every turn. The gruesome gut-twisting threat of thirty-six [This is a short summary only....
