An easy, homemade turkey soup simmered in a CrockPot. My favorite cure. A certain soup slurping and prickly individual (we won’t name names, to protect the innocent) has been feeling under the weather for so long now the sensation is in danger of becoming a habit. Yes, the tree pollen onslaught continues. Blessed by a wet winter, Southern California trees are celebrating with copious amounts of… © 2005-2010 Gluten  Read More →

Delicious and simple: gluten-free Irish soda bread. I’m going to share two things today. My best Irish soda bread recipe and a sneak peek of our new loft apartment (with room to set up a studio!). The tenant next door has vacated and it’s coming together fast. We’re moving in over the next three days. So what am I up to? I’m practicing my best Domestic Goddess routine, catching up on laundry, Hi there! This is a short summary...

Our favorite new gluten-free cracker recipe with sea salt and olive oil. This is a light, pleasantly crisp cracker that is flaky and tender- and you won’t believe it’s gluten-free and vegan. The texture is so elegant. Yet. The flavor retains an earthy touch of rustic, with a hint of… Dude. Cue soft focus. Suddenly I feel as if I’m in a varietal wine commercial, tossing my hair back (if I had Hi there! This is a short summary...

Craving a bowl of comfort? Have I got a soup recipe for you. Frost was not on the pumpkin this morning. Not my pumpkin, anyway. Mine’s long gone. Turned into a pie. Well, that and it was 80 degrees yesterday. Skateboarders careening by my apartment (at impressive speeds for a Fat Tuesday) wore nothing but Aloha shorts. Welcome to Santa Monica in February. But what was on my pumpkin- if I still Hi there! This is a short summary only. Visit...

How do I love thee, Dear Reader? Let me count the ways. And if you wouldn’t mind indulging me (just a little) let me count them in chocolate- that buttery dark bitter sweetness that coaxes even the no good very bad surliest day to soften its grip. Consider this my chocolate valentine to you. For starters, let me thank you with a wake-up call. How about velvety Chocolate  Read More →

Gluten-free chocolate muffins are a sexy vegan breakfast. The morning was cool and bright. It was going to be one of those quintessential Cape Cod autumn days. A day tourists swoon over. Worthy of a post card with The weather is sublime- wish you were here scrawled in black gel cursive between sips of a Hot Chocolate Sparrow latte. The sky was a bowl of cobalt blue with that particular pink edge Hi there! This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free...

Roasted fingerling and tiny new potatoes and winter squash on baby salad greens. After a long and restless night I am pondering potato salad and glitter. Sleep deprivation may be unpleasant but it often breaks loose the inertia of stalled imagination (who among us has the power of will to maintain the status quo of the literal, linear world after a scant teaspoon of sleep?). In my experience it Hi there! This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free...

Rich, intense chocolate sorbet- dairy-free and vegan. Two trends are sneaking in to recipe searches this week. The first? Super bowl recipes. You know, guy-style chicken chili and Crock-Pot crowd pleasers. Party food for the Big Game. Guacamole and hummus. Nachos. The second trend is a search closer to my own heart and its tender sensibilities.  You may have already guessed it. Because you, Hi there! This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free...

Tasty quinoa pilaf with mushrooms, peppers and Greek seasoning. In between bouts of rain and nostalgia (I prickle using the word nostalgia, to be honest; it smacks of sentimentality, not a trait I cultivate or suffer gladly, but I’ll get to that later) I’ve been craving quinoa like there’s no tomorrow, as if I’m living in my own post-apocalyptic genre movie, foraging for nuts and berries on a Hi there! Valentine’s Day is looming. A dicey day for those of us who need to live gluten-free. In spite of our pragmatism and gritty resolve to stay healthy, we crave our romance, too. We celebrate love (in all its multitudinous incarnations, right?). We champion Love (sexy) over Fear (not sexy). Now more than ever. So don’t worry, Darling. I’ve got your back. Cooking is not only about nutrition, Hi there! This is a short summary only....

Our favorite gluten-free chili- hearty winter comfort. FADE IN: INT. 5TH FLOOR APARTMENT – DAY A chilly winter light slices into a SANTA MONICA apartment and illuminates every cobweb. (Obviously, a certain individual has been neglecting house work again). Said individual sighs audibly. Glances sideways into the mirror hanging above the kitchen sink cluttered with coffee spoons, grilled Hi there! This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free...

Warm up with a bowl of this mulligatawny soup. Soup weather has arrived in Southern California. The sky is flannel gray and thick with rain. The streets below are slick and shiny wet. Monday morning traffic sounds are hushed and distant. It is even a bit chilly- for L.A. standards. I am wrapped in a sweater. And I am craving mulligatawny- one of my favorite spicy soups. As luck or fate or Plan Hi there! This is a  Read More →

A dazlious quinoa recipe with butternut and cranberry jewels Today’s recipe is a beautiful red quinoa recipe I tossed together featuring roasted butternut squash, cranberries and pecans. Serve this as a colorful side dish or stuff a vegetable. It would be fab and hip served in scooped out roasted vegetables such as big bell peppers or tomatoes. Red quinoa has a milder taste than the standard [This is a short summary only. Visit Gluten-Free...
