The Diet is Dead. Long Live the Diet
The Diet is Dead. Long Live the Diet
If you’ve ever been on a weight loss diet, you know how difficult it is to stay the course, achieve your target weight, and then maintain it for months and years. The majority of dieters fail to maintain their low weight for over a year. For many, a diet means a temporary sacrifice and inconvenience in order to reach a certain goal (Weddings,...

Don’t Think About Talking to China About Toxic Beans
Don’t Think About Talking to China About Toxic Beans
Here’s a little anecdote that shows how big a challenge it will continue to be to get China to behave like a citizen of the world and a trustworthy trading partner. Officials in Wuhan destroyed 3.5 tons of beans , after it was discovered the beans had been treated with a highly toxic pesticide that has been banned for use on foodstuffs....

Petits Farcis A La Provencale – Provencal Filled Zucchinis
I know I did not post a new French Word feature last week so I thought I’d bring you a little bit of Provence where I grew up by sharing these “Petits Farcis a la Provencale” or Provencal Filled Vegetables . To say that I could eat these all 365 days of the year is no exaggeration. Even when I am sniffling and coughing away as...

Getting Kids to Eat More Veggies Is More Fun Than You Think!
This is a guest post by Dr. Susan Rubin Our kids are suffering from a picky eater epidemic where tater tots and chicken fingers win out over real food.  Building a better chicken nugget or baking instead of frying those taters is not going to do what we need done. The bottom line is: we need to increase vegetable consumption. Well meaning parents...

Salmonella Scare Exposes the Dangers of Industrial Food
Salmonella Scare Exposes the Dangers of Industrial Food
The contamination of perhaps thousands of food products with salmonella should be a wake-up call to apologists for the industrialized food system. It’s not possible to bring the system down and get everyone to eat an all-local, all-fresh diet, as some “locavores” say they want. But to continue to pretend that our food system...
It’s Fava Bean Season!
It’s Fava Bean Season!
Beautiful and plump fava beans are showing up all over in our produce markets. These very versatile beans are known to be the stars of the legume family and taste fantastic in salads, crostinis, pastas, risottos, stews and dips just to name a few. Look for favas that are bright green with slightly fuzzy pods and avoid any ones that are blackened...
