Pomegranate and Caramelized Pear Panna Cottas
I appreciate this time of year when night falls so much earlier. It makes me want to rush home and cozy up with loved ones, a book or a good project. Unlike summer when things are so bright up in my face, I love that Fall and Winter are seasons of shadows and angles with night and day playing cat and mouse so well. So many holidays around the...

More One-Sided Arguments About High-Fructose Corn Syrup
A study issued recently showing that high fructose corn syrup makes rats fatter than table sugar does has drawn predictable responses this week from people bent on proving that the industrial sweetener is worse than we already know it to be (which is bad enough). At the same time, though, the study’s findings are enough to give some pause....

Honey Lemon Pots De Creme
I must start this post by saying that I did not pick pots de creme as a birthday treat for my better half. I could have though. He likes them. A lot. Traditionalists vs modernists: a battle royale?
The current copy of The World of Fine Wine just landed on my desk with a thud. Since it’s based in London and costs $169 a year, it’s not something you can readily pick up at Hudson News. In this issue, the 216-page glossy magazine/journal compiles provocative essays and tasting reports from independent journalists and some people...

Sugar Coma – Get Your Fix In Atlanta!
Sweet N’ Sinful Bakery Revisiting last weekend’s trip to Atlanta through pictures made me smile real big again. It was packed with places to see and goodies to eat. Candy Expo Showcases Healthy Snacks. Indeed?
In a sign of the times, the Sweets & Snacks Expo earlier this week in Chicago focused on healthier treats. Saleswomen for Hershey Co. handed out Reese’s Minis, chocolate-peanut butter cups the size of marbles, which they touted as ideal for portion control. Nearby, staff members for candy behemoth Mars chatted up their sugar-free Dove...
