arroz con chorizo – simply spanish rice

December 7th, 2009 admin

So I’ve been in Spain for 2 weeks now and you’ll be happy to know I have managed to tear myself away from the markets and my little kitchen and venture out to a couple of restaurants and a wine tasting. Actually even the wine tasting had amazing tapas, but I digress. I haven’t yet found anywhere to try the most famous and possibly most abused of Spanish dishes – Paella . Not …

Tasting the legendary wines from Domaine Francois Raveneau in Chablis is a rare event since the wines are almost impossible to find. And tasting them with some age and oysters hardly ever happens outside of Chablis and the Hamptons. But I managed to try oysters with three Raveneau wines at a collector’s house recently, thanks to an invitation...

a spanish inspired salad & thankyou
I feel a little weird at the moment. Here I am in the beautiful city of Barcelona, it’s freezing outside, there are pretty lights and decorations everywhere. My diary tells me it’s 4 sleeps until Santa comes. But it doesn’t feel like Christmas. It’s just not warm enough. I digress. I didn’t drop by to whinge today....

No Recipes Vol. 19 – ¡Viva España!
After a game full of penalties and missed opportunities, Spain pulled it together in extra time with a 116th minute goal by Andrés Iniesta. Surrounded by waving Spanish flags and hysterical fans, I lost myself in the moment, and forgot I was in the middle of New York City. After a morning spent indulging in all things meat at the Meatopia BBQ...
A La Carte—A La iPad
A La Carte—A La iPad
Someday, maybe we’ll all be ordering our restaurant meals via iPads, iPhones, and other mobile devices. A restaurant in Sydney, Global Mundo Tapas, has decided to get a head start, as National Eater notes : “The app allows the restaurant to easily change its menu, shows pictures of each dish, and also communicates orders directly to...

5 simple ways to make icecream without an icecream machine
Icecream. Is there anything better? Lately I’ve been thinking about icecream more than usual. Could be something to do with being back to Southern Hemisphere Summer. Or maybe it was the amazing gorgonzola icecream or the savoury truffle icecream I experience at elBulli last month. Anyway I digress. As a minimalist, I’ve been feeling...

It’s amazing that cork producers got Glenn Beck to rally to their $22 million marketing campaign ! If you are interested in the Iberian Lynx, surf over to SOS Lynx . It discusses the causes of their dwindling lynx numbers (chiefly, a decline in wild rabbits and 70% of their natural habitats allowing hunting), a doubling of females in recent...
Simply Good Chocolate Cake
Simply Good Chocolate Cake
Spring. Easter. Trees in bloom. Bright sunshine. Rain drops. Big sneezes. Little colds. Travels. Coming home. And chocolate. My mom asked me the other day what was my creative process to write posts. Well, there it is. I throw words on paper. Words that go with the pictures I have taken of the recipe I have just made. I take them and elaborate...
Cornmeal Lemon Cake with Strawberries and Mint: Simply the taste of spring
A simple, not-too-sweet, lemony cake topped with strawberries and fresh mint makes a light, seasonal dessert. Recipe below. I didn’t grow up in the South, but lots of my relatives did, and… [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]  Read More →

The Pouch: marsupial wine hits the Finger Lakes!
Box wine just lost its box. The AstroPouch, previously used for foreign wines mostly in overseas markets, contains an American wine for the first time starting today. The distinction goes to Glenora Wine Cellars which put its Trestle Creek Riesling in 1.5L bag, two bottles’ worth of wine, and sell it for $17.99 from its tasting room. Like...
A lovely Kiwi Riesling from Neudorf
New Zealand is, of course, famous for its Sauvignon Blanc, becoming famous for its Pinot Noir, and beginning to make a name for its Syrahs. But what of its Rieslings? I think they’re a bit underrated. They are also quite hard to sell. But I’ve tried some great examples of late, in both the dry style, the just-off-dry style, and the lower...
